Other Kind

Wednesday 12 March 2008, 9pm

at Camden People's Theatre

Other Kind is a sci-fi poetic theatre play written by Christos Prossylis in 2000-2001. An early work in progress performance was presented in London in 2004 and a new, final adaptation of the text became available for CosmoTheatre last summer. The director approaches the play with somatic-movement theatre techniques, improvisation, poetic-symbolic drama actions, technological aspects and semiotic systems to develop acting and directing.

THE STORY

Two human beings from the future, Dactyl and Embryo are having a meeting in an unnamed place in our Galaxy in the Mediterranean Sea domain. Embryo is a product of biomechanics. Dactyl is Embryo’s friend and an officer of the government’s system in this planet’s community.

The system reads a radio message from the past; according to it Embryo was born deathless in order to destroy the Mediterranean world. Embryo knows that no one can kill him/her and s/he will destroy this world. So s/he makes a decision: to leave this world and the friend, to transform him/herself in an “other kind” of life, an absolutely innocent kind: a flower...
