Ecstasy
the performance
A work in
progress theatre piece based on the classical play “The
Bacchae” by
Euripides.
Presented at Theatro
Technis in London. Friday, 4th May 2007.
The last
and finest, according to a lot of theatre scholars, tragedy of Euripides is
an extremely complex play dealing with such major conflicts as: the rational
Vs the irrational, the “known” Vs the “other”, male Vs female, nature Vs
civilization, order Vs chaos. In our adaptation, the story acts out in a
modern metropolis.
One of the greatest of
all Greek tragedies, The Bacchae powerfully dramatizes the conflict between
the emotional and rational sides of the human psyche.
